The alleged perpetrator of the attack on AMIA is named leader of the Iranian Guard
He was identified as the mastermind of the attack that left 85 dead.

Ahmad Vahidi has a red alert from Interpol and Argentina requested his arrest in 2024.
Amid the escalating war in the Middle East, the Iranian regime appointed Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi as the new commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The decision was announced this Sunday and comes after the death of General Mohamad Pakpur in attacks carried out by the United States
and Israel.
Vahidi has been on Interpol's red alert since 2007 for his alleged involvement in the attack on the AMIA headquarters in 1994, which left 85 dead and more than 300 injured. In 2024, the Government of Javier Milei formally requested his arrest, in line with the historic demand for justice for the most serious terrorist attack suffered on Argentine soil
. Prosecutor Alberto Nisman was killed while investigating the attack.
According to the investigation led at the time by prosecutor Alberto Nisman, Vahidi —who was commander of the Al-Quds Force— would have participated in the meeting where it was decided to carry out the attack in Argentina. The prosecution maintains that the operation was entrusted to the Islamic Jihad of the Lebanese Hezbollah,
with authorization and funding from Iranian authorities.
The AMIA Fiscal Unit maintains that the Iranian defendants acted through Hezbollah as the executing arm, under the direction of the Persian regime.
In this context, federal judge Daniel Rafecas promoted the trial in absentia against ten Iranians considered fugitives, while prosecutor Sebastián Basso requested an international arrest warrant against the then supreme leader Ali Khamenei in 2024.
Vahidi held the position of Defense Minister when, in 2013, the administration of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner signed the controversial Memorandum with Iran, an agreement that was severely questioned by the Jewish community and by broad political sectors because of its impact on the AMIA cause.
The attack on AMIA claimed 85 victims on Argentine soil. In addition to Pakpur, the regime confirmed the death of senior military commanders in the recent attacks, as well as that of supreme leader Ali Khamenei himself.
After his death, Ayatollah Alireza Arafi was appointed as a member of an interim council that will lead the country together with President Masud Pezeshkian and the head of the Judiciary

The decision to place a man with an international arrest warrant at the head of the Revolutionary Guard reinforces Tehran's challenging stance vis-a-vis the West and revives Argentina's demand for justice for AMIA.
