Months after announcing his retirement from the Uruguayan national team, Luis Suárez left open the possibility of representing his country again after his retirement in September 2024.
The historic striker Charrúa had stepped aside after the goalless draw against Paraguay for date 7 of the South American Qualifiers at the Centenario Stadium, in the midst of a tense relationship with coach Marcelo Bielsa, whom he later pointed to out of distractions during the last Copa América. However, over time, the conflict seems to have been left behind, and a few weeks before the start of the 2026 World Cup, the soccer player himself now does not rule out returning
.“Obviously, being Uruguayan, you would never say no to the National Team. At the time, I took a step aside because I saw that I had to give way to young people. Then I said things I shouldn't have said, it wasn't the right time, but I already apologized to those I had to apologize to,” he said at an Inter Miami press conference
