Peru moves towards a ballot with Keiko Fujimori in first place in a fragmented election

In parallel, the official count of the National Office of Electoral Processes is progressively progressing. With more than 50% of records recorded, partial data place Fujimori at around 16%, while López Aliaga comes in second place with close to 14%, which introduces variations with respect to the estimates of the

quick count.

The development of election day was marked by logistical problems that affected the normal operation of some voting centers. Faced with this situation, the National Elections Jury ordered the extension of the process to certain locations, both within the country and abroad, with the objective of guaranteeing the participation of qualified voters

. The

electoral authorities indicated that the final official results will be released once the full ballot is over. Meanwhile, preliminary data consolidate a competitive landscape, with reduced differences between the main candidates and an open scenario for the second round of

elections.

The electoral process in Peru 2026 continues with preliminary results that reflect a highly fragmented and undefined scenario in the first round. According to the quick count prepared by Ipsos, with 95.7% of the minutes processed, Keiko Fujimori is in first place with approximately 17.1% of the valid votes, consolidating her position as the most voted candidate in

this initial instance.

The dispute for second place, meanwhile, is tight between several candidates. Roberto Sánchez reached close to 12.4%, followed by Rafael López Aliaga with approximately 11.3%. Jorge Nieto with around 10.7% and Ricardo Belmont with about 10.2% also remain in competition, in a context of narrow margins

among the main applicants.

These results show a marked dispersion of the vote, with at least five candidates concentrating similar percentages and none exceeding 20% of the votes. In this context, everything indicates that the presidential definition will be transferred to a second round, in which the two most voted candidates will participate once the official ballot is over.
