President Javier Milei sent a strong message in which he described the espionage operation that came to light in the last few hours as “of an institutional gravity rarely seen in history”.

Far from being an isolated hypothesis, various international journalistic investigations confirmed the existence of an organized network with specific political objectives in the country.

Documents reveal an international operation against the Government

According to an investigation based on leaked documents, an organization linked to Russian interests carried out a systematic disinformation campaign in Argentina with the objective of discrediting the Milei

government.

The report details that hundreds of paid articles were published on local digital media using false identities and content generated with artificial intelligence. In addition, hundreds of thousands of dollars were allocated to these operations, confirming the existence of external financing and strategic planning

.

This information does not come only from the journalistic field: the Argentine Intelligence Secretariat itself had already detected these maneuvers and brought them to the attention of the Justice.

“The tip of the iceberg”: the role of local media and actors

In this context, Milei's phrase that certain journalists and media are just “the tip of the iceberg” takes on greater dimension. What the President proposes is not an isolated opinion, but a reading aligned with the data that is beginning to emerge from international investigations and

intelligence reports.

The revealed scheme shows that the operations were not limited to publishing content, but sought to influence public opinion, generate internal divisions and affect the country's political stability.

This raises questions about the possible participation —direct or indirect— of local actors in the amplification of these campaigns.

The Government is moving forward with intelligence reforms

.

At the same time, the Milei administration had already been promoting changes in the intelligence system to modernize its operation and adapt it to new threats. At the beginning of 2026, the Government amended the National Intelligence Act through a DNU and anticipated a more profound reform to strengthen the State's capacities in the face of this type of operation

.

These measures are part of a broader strategy aimed at combating clandestine structures and making institutional functioning transparent.

A clear political message: zero tolerance for illegal espionage

Milei's announcement also has a strong political component: it makes clear that the Government will not tolerate covert operations or networks of influence that operate

outside the law.

The decision to move “to the last consequences” involves not only investigating those directly responsible, but also unraveling the entire network of links that allowed these operations to take place in Argentine territory.

An institutional turning point The case could mark a turning

point if Justice succeeds in making progress on those responsible and the magnitude of the reported framework is confirmed

.

Far from being a minor argument, what is at stake is the integrity of the democratic system in the face of foreign influence operations.

With this position, Milei once again stands firmly on a sensitive issue and leaves a clear message: the Argentine State will not be fertile ground for espionage networks or disinformation campaigns financed from abroad.
