The Justice of La Rioja issued an unprecedented ruling in the province condemning a woman to compensate her former partner, an officer of the Provincial Police, for having carried out a sustained campaign of defamation and harassment through social networks.

The ruling sets an economic reparation of approximately 10 million pesos. The case was promoted by lawyers Celeste Maidana and Pablo Arrieta, who highlighted the scope of the ruling and its impact as a precedent on

local case law.

The conflict originated in 2019, after the end of the couple's relationship. From that moment on, women began a systematic campaign on social networks with the objective of damaging the reputation of police officers. The posts included personal attacks, discriminatory comments, and the dissemination of false information

The campaign of defamation and harassment

Among the most serious accusations, it was found that he repeatedly reported that his ex-partner was suffering from a sexually transmitted disease, a completely false statement.

This fact had direct consequences as he was a public official, and an administrative case was opened within the force, affecting his chances of promotion.

The case worsened even more when the woman filed complaints of gender-based violence against the agent.

However, these were investigated and later dismissed and archived due to a total lack of evidence.

One of the central aspects of the ruling was the way in which the Justice was able to prove the authorship of the attacks. Although some of the harassment was carried out from anonymous accounts, the court used indicative and testimonial evidence to establish responsibility

.

The analysis determined that the content published from fake profiles matched those published from the defendant's personal account: the same language, the same accusations and intimate details that only she knew. This coincidence was considered sufficient evidence to attribute authorship to him

.

From the legal point of view, the resolution was described as a milestone in the province, with an impact comparable to high-profile cases at the national level.

In addition, it was noted that this type of conduct can not only lead to civil penalties, but also to criminal actions for slander, insult or false reporting, with possible prison sentences.
