The United Kingdom is once again on alert after an arson attack on a synagogue in North London, in a context marked by the growth of anti-Semitic incidents. British police confirmed that a 17-year-old boy was formally charged with the incident, while another 19-year-old suspect remains under arrest as part of the same investigation

.

The episode occurred last weekend at the Kenton United Synagogue, located in Harrow, where an object containing flammable material was thrown through a window, generating smoke inside the building. Fortunately, there were no injuries, although the incident generated a strong shock

in the community.

A worrying pattern of attacks

British authorities noted that this incident is not isolated, but is part of a series of recent attacks against targets linked to the Jewish community in London. In total, there are already at least six similar episodes, with 15 arrests made as part of anti-terrorist

investigations.

The targets attacked include synagogues, community ambulance services and the media. This pattern set off alarm bells about the possibility of coordinated actions by extremist groups or

organized networks.

Suspected links to international terrorism

.

Security sources indicated that some of these attacks could be related to individuals recruited as “paid executors”, allegedly linked to organizations with ties to Iran. In this context, an emerging Islamist group claimed responsibility for several of the attacks in Europe, including the one in

London.

According to intelligence reports, this group would have identified the attacked synagogue as a target because of its alleged link with Israeli interests, which reinforces the hypothesis of ideological motivations behind the attack.

Political condemnation and growing social concern

The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, described the attacks as “aberrant” and assured that those responsible will be brought to justice. Convictions have multiplied from different political and social sectors, while concern for the safety of the Jewish community is growing

.

Anti-Semitism monitoring organizations warned that such incidents have increased since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza in October 2023, reflecting a worrying trend due to their persistence.

The challenge of curbing anti-Semitism The

case once again highlights the challenge faced by Western democracies in the face of the advance of anti-Semitism. Beyond police operations, experts point to the need to address the roots of the problem, which include ideological radicalization and the spread of hate speech in different areas

.

The series of attacks in London not only raises alarm because of their seriousness, but also because of the risk that these events will be normalized. In this context, there is growing consensus on the urgency of strengthening prevention and protection policies to guarantee the coexistence and safety of all communities
