Despite the defeat, Orbán's Fidesz remains the second force with a very solid electoral base.

As we anticipated, Viktor Orbán has lost the Hungarian parliamentary elections in 2026.

After more than 16 years of leading Fidesz and governing with a firm hand in defense of Hungarian interests, the Prime Minister recognized tonight the victory of the Tisza party, led by Péter Magyar.

Orbán congratulated the winner and admitted the defeat with dignity, respecting the verdict of the polls. For those of us who value national sovereignty, this result represents a severe blow: Hungary leaves behind the era in which it dared to stand in front of Brussels

.

The numbers and the coming turn

According to the first official results, Péter Magyar's Tisza party won with about 53.65% of the votes and would obtain a comfortable majority in Parliament (around 138 seats out of 199). Fidesz-KDNP came in second with

just over 37%.

Magyar, who campaigned under the banner of “change” and the moderate center, has already advanced the main definitions of his future government:

  • Greater alignment with the policies

  • of the European Union.
  • Immediate unlocking of withheld European funds.

  • A change in migration policy, with less emphasis on strict border control.

  • A tougher stance against Russia and greater support for Brussels' official line in Ukraine.

  • Strong impetus to the renewable energy agenda.

  • All of this marks a clear shift from the position that Orbán maintained during his term of office, where he always put the interests of Hungary first above the directives of Brussels.

Orbán's legacy: 16 years defending Hungary

For more than a decade and a half, Viktor Orbán was the European leader who was most encouraged to say “no” when Brussels tried to impose policies that affected Hungarian sovereignty. His government protected borders, defended the traditional family, reduced taxes, promoted the birth rate and maintained Hungary as one of the safest countries in Europe against

    uncontrolled immigration.

Now, with Magyar in power, Hungary is moving closer to the EU's majority model: more funds in exchange

    for less independence.

Despite the defeat, Fidesz remains the second force with a very solid electoral base. Orbán, with his experience and undisputed leadership, will continue to be one of the main references of the sovereign right

    in Europe.
