The dispute between Argentina and Spain over footballers born or trained in Europe has added a new chapter. The protagonist is Carlos Diez, a midfielder for Real Madrid's U19 team, who has caught the interest of both federations and is seen as one of the most promising youth projects in European football.
Diez was born in Madrid 19 years ago, but he holds Argentine nationality because his father was born in the country. This status allows him to represent the Argentine National Team, while his place of birth and football training directly link him to Spain.

The growth of the midfielder in the youth divisions of Real Madrid caught the attention of the AFA's Scouting Department, which began to closely monitor his development.
The player has just had an outstanding season with the Madrid team. As captain of the U19 team, he was one of the key players in the squad that won the Youth Champions League, one of the main continental tournaments in the category.
