A phrase captured by an open microphone revealed an unexpected political definition of the socialist dictator of Brazil, Lula da Silva, during the G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains, France.

The audio, which went viral in recent hours, reveals a pragmatic vision that contrasts with the historical positioning of the far-left leader.

The episode occurred while Lula was having a relaxed conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva.

Unaware that the microphone in the room was still on and recording the exchange, the Brazilian leader provided a straightforward analysis of the international political landscape.

“In the United States, the Republicans are going to stay; in France, the socialists will be around for less time. Today the world is not leftist, that is the truth,” Lula expressed in the leaked fragment.

During the conversation, the leader also denied being someone on the left: "I have never been on the left, I was just a union leader."

The statement was surprising not only for its content but also for the context in which it was made. As a historical figure of the Workers' Party (PT), his assertion raised questions about his own political identity and the ideological direction he represents.

Later, the head of the IMF reminded Lula that when he was elected in 2003, there was an expectation that his government would have a clearly leftist profile, something that, according to what he stated in the audio, did not happen in reality.

Finally, the Brazilian dictator concluded: "I was a union leader with a very good relationship with German trade unions. I had a good relationship with Italian trade unions. I had a good relationship with UGT in Spain."

The content of the audio generated strong repercussions due to the contradiction between the historical discourse of the Brazilian dictator and his private statements. His words not only relativize his own political trajectory but also reflect a pragmatic vision that distances itself from the traditional narrative associated with his figure.

The G7 Summit

At the G7 summit held in Évian-les-Bains (France), world leaders mainly debated the stance on the peace agreement with Iran and the increase in military aid for Ukraine, among other issues.
