Boca officially presented its new commemorative jersey, a special edition designed by Adidas to honor the 25th anniversary of the 2001 Copa Libertadores victory, one of the most memorable in the club's history. The new kit will be debuted this Thursday against Universidad Católica, in a decisive match for the last round of the group stage.
The new jersey takes inspiration from the model used during that historic continental campaign, although with some modern tweaks and details reflecting the current visual identity of the club. The tribute directly targets one of the most glorious periods of the Xeneize, marked by the international dominance of Carlos Bianchi's cycle.
One of the most striking aspects of the design is the placement of the crest, which appears centered on the chest, just below the Adidas logo, something unusual in traditional Boca jerseys. Additionally, the shade of blue chosen for this edition is darker than that used in the early 2000s.
The jersey also retains the current sponsors of the club. Betsson continues to occupy the center of the jersey, while Cetrogar appears on the sleeves and DIRECTV is located on the lower back. On the upper back, the inscription "25 years, 2001" can be read, clearly referring to the anniversary of that continental conquest.
The launch did not only include the home jersey. Boca and Adidas also presented the matching shorts and socks, both in the same predominant shade of blue. Additionally, a dress shirt with a design commemorating the anniversary was released for sale, which includes a map of South America along with the commemorative legend.
The 2001 Libertadores represented the definitive consolidation of a dominant Boca in the continent, which had just conquered America in 2000 and imposed itself again a year later to lift the fourth Copa Libertadores in its history. That team left an indelible mark in the memory of the fans and became a global reference. Now, 25 years later, the club decided to revive part of that mystique with a jersey that seeks to connect the glorious past with the present xeneize.
