Activision confirmed what many anticipated: the next Call of Duty title will not arrive on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, marking the end of a period that lasted more than six years.

The decision implies a definitive break with the console generation launched in 2013 and consolidates the exclusive focus on more modern hardware such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC.

The end of a long transition

For years, Activision maintained a cross-release strategy so as not to lose a player base. However, that decision began to show clear limits.

The last title to support that model was Black Ops 7, which still reached both generations. Now, the company puts an end to that policy.

The message was direct: “The next Call of Duty is not being developed for PS4,” the company said, denying recent rumors.

Technology vs. limitations

The decision is no accident. Older consoles began to fall short of current technical requirements

.

In recent releases, players reported:

  • Performance drops

  • Graphics problems

  • High load times

Maintaining compatibility with old hardware not only affected the user experience, but also the development of the

game.

Therefore, the change responds to a growing demand within the community: to stop limiting franchising for technology that is more than a decade old.

Impact on players

The move leaves out millions of users who are still using PS4 and Xbox One.

For that segment, access to the new Call of Duty will depend directly on upgrading to more recent consoles, something that is not always easy in all markets.

Even so, some content such as Warzone is still available in the previous generation, although it's not clear how much longer that support will last.

An inevitable change

The generational leap was a matter of time. The industry has been moving in that direction and Call of Duty could not be left behind

.

Activision's commitment is to:

  • Improve graphics and performance

  • Introduce new mechanics

  • Take advantage of modern hardware

.

Everything indicates that this change could also mark a deeper evolution in the franchise, with titles designed without technical restrictions

from the past.

What's coming

Although there is still no official name confirmed - with rumors pointing to a new Modern Warfare -, the full announcement is expected to arrive in the coming weeks

.

What is clear is that Call of Duty is entering a new phase: more ambitious, more demanding and completely focused on the next generation.
