The City of Buenos Aires launched an ambitious health infrastructure plan with 151 works in public hospitals, financed largely thanks to the charge for the care of foreigners, in addition to the recovery of social and prepaid works.

The head of government, Jorge Macri, supervised the work at the Fernández Hospital, where new offices and a completely renovated guard are being built.

The end of “health tours” and a change of model

The new scheme marked a shift in Buenos Aires health policy. For the first time, the City began to charge foreigners for medical care, allowing it to break with the scheme known as “health tourism” and recover key resources.

That money is now reinvested directly into the public system, generating a funding circuit that strengthens hospitals without

increasing taxes.

During the first quarter of the year, revenue exceeded $42 billion, boosting works throughout the healthcare network.

Concrete works financed by the recovery

  • There are currently 30 works in progress, including: The

    • expansion of the Fernández Hospital (more than 3,200 m²) The modernization of

    • the Pirovano Hospital The construction of

    • new diagnostic centers Community health centers

    • in different neighborhoods In addition, the plan allowed the incorporation of

    :

    • 900 new beds

    • 5,000 medical equipment

    New bases of SAME

Priority for Buenos Aires residents in care

The new model not only aims to improve infrastructure, but also to reorganize access to the system

    .

The implementation of the shift priority scheme seeks to ensure that public system resources are focused on the residents of the City, in a context of growing demand.

The Minister of Health, Fernán Quirós, stressed that this system allows “strengthening response capacity and improving the quality of

    care”.

More benefits and a more efficient system

The impact of the new scheme is also reflected in the number of services:

    • More than 30 million annual benefits

    • An increase of 30% in service capacity The

FACOEP agency expanded its scope to include charging foreigners, consolidating a model that improves the

    sustainability of the system.

A structural change in public health The

plan is part of a larger program of more than 500 health projects. The key to the model is clear: recover resources, tidy up the system and reinvest in infrastructure

    .

With this scheme, the City seeks to guarantee a more efficient system, with better hospitals and a greater focus on Buenos Aires residents, in a context where demand continues to increase.
