In a direct attack on democracy and the popular will expressed at the polls on June 21, the leader of the far left, Iván Cepeda, has declared an open war against the institutions of Colombia. Faced with the unstoppable advance of freedom represented by the President Elect, Abelardo de la Espriella, the Pacto Histórico sector is now seeking to disregard legitimate authority through a dangerous call for civil disobedience.

The plan of communism is clear: to sabotage the mandate of De la Espriella if he does not comply with a series of demands that only seek to protect the nefarious Gustavo Petro from his pending issues with international justice.

The central axis of this blackmail lies in the protection of the outgoing regime. Iván Cepeda has been emphatic that the new government must “desist” from any intention to extradite the current president Gustavo Petro. This demand arises in a critical context, as Cepeda himself admitted that “two prosecutors from the Brooklyn district in New York are currently investigating President Gustavo Petro”.

For the radical opposition, it is vital that what they call “persecution” ceases and that any judicial process driven by the U.S. Department of Justice against allies of the Petro project is halted.

In addition to seeking impunity for the close circle of the outgoing president, the communist Cepeda has attacked the personal sovereignty of Abelardo de la Espriella, demanding that he renounce his U.S. citizenship.

According to the former senator, the oath taken by the President Elect in the North American country entails obligations that are “incompatible with the exercise of the function and the presidential condition in Colombia”.

In his divisive rhetoric, Cepeda argues that De la Espriella would have to “take sides” for foreign interests, questioning his suitability as Head of State.

The left's onslaught does not stop there. Without presenting any evidence, Iván Cepeda attempted to link the President Elect with the paramilitary Jorge Luis Hernández Villazón, alias Boliche, whom he identified as an informant for federal agencies.

Under this premise, the opposition leader demanded that U.S. authorities clarify whether Mr. De la Espriella “has been or is an agent or collaborator of the DEA, the CIA, or any other U.S. security agency”. Even in an attempt to delegitimize the overwhelming victory of the right, Cepeda attributed the electoral results to an “open interference” by former president Donald Trump.

Finally, showcasing an authoritarian tone, the representative of the Pacto Histórico used the 12,700,000 votes obtained in the electoral contest to incite his followers to resistance. Cepeda was blunt in stating that, if his demands are not met, he will initiate a path of peaceful civil disobedience, which “implies not recognizing the authority of someone who does not respond to the defense of national sovereignty”.

His call to the membership is a direct invitation to disobedience: “peacefully disregard any order from someone who does not respond to the condition of guardian of our political constitution”. For communism, when authority clashes with its ideology, the citizen has the “duty to resist”, a stance that threatens to plunge the country into instability just as the era of national reconstruction begins under the leadership of Abelardo de la Espriella.
