The chief warrant officer of the Federal Police exchanged gunfire with two motorcycle thieves who attempted to rob and kill him as he arrived at his home in La Matanza
A violent robbery attempt ended in an armed confrontation early Tuesday morning in González Catán, in the district of La Matanza, amid the serious security crisis affecting the province of Buenos Aires, due to the ultra-Kirchnerist governor Axel Kicillof.
The victim was a senior officer of the Argentine Federal Police (PFA), 61 years old, a member of the Security and Custody Division, assigned to the Ministry of National Security for the protection of Minister Alejandra Monteoliva.
The incident occurred on Gallardo Street at number 800, when the officer was driving his Toyota Etios. According to the version from the Buenos Aires Police, two criminals riding a Yamaha intercepted him to attempt a robbery and began shooting at him. One of the bullets struck the driver's side window.

In response to the attack, the officer drew his service weapon and returned fire. As a result of the confrontation, he was shot in the shoulder, but was later taken to a medical center and remains out of danger.
The two violent motorcycle thieves were also injured. One of them, identified by the last name Bustamante, sustained a gunshot wound to the back and was found a few meters from the motorcycle.
The second suspect suffered five gunshot wounds in various parts of his body and remains detained and hospitalized in serious condition at the Simplemente Evita Hospital.
The investigation also established that Bustamante had been wanted since 2025 with an international warrant for attempting to kill another police officer.

His identity was cross-referenced with the databases of the Justice of La Matanza by prosecutor Adrián Arribas, who is involved in the case along with the 2nd South Police Station of González Catán.
Meanwhile, investigators located the vehicle used by the family members of the second suspect to transport him to the hospital. In that car, a pistol was found that, according to the investigation, was likely used by the two motorcycle thieves during the attack on the federal police officer.
The incident also prompted a reaction from Minister Monteoliva, who referred to the case in a post on her X account: “Early this morning, senior officer Farías of the PFA, belonging to the Security and Custody Division of the National Security Ministry, was shot in an armed confrontation when leaving his home in La Matanza. Two criminals attempted to rob him. The officer was on extraordinary leave.”
“We stand by him and his family at this time. We support our police officers. And the criminals, who are already identified and detained, will face justice,” she concluded.
The case remains under investigation by prosecutor Arribas. While measures are being taken to clarify the attempted murder in González Catán, the senior officer is recovering well and remains out of danger.
