Elon Musk predicted how much he could generate with AI

During a presentation to employees published on X, Elon Musk stated that AI has become a central part of SpaceX's future.

According to the entrepreneur, revenues linked to artificial intelligence could exceed all other sources of income for SpaceX in September and grow even more during the fourth quarter.

Musk also estimated that, within four or five years, AI could represent 99% of SpaceX's value.

SpaceX wants to increase its AI capacity from 1.4 to 10 gigawatts

The company aims to have 10 gigawatts of computing capacity for AI by the end of next year. Currently, SpaceX has 1.4 gigawatts that it sells to tech companies and artificial intelligence labs.

Musk calculated that each watt could represent between US$30 and US$50. With 10 operational gigawatts, that would imply between US$300 billion and US$500 billion in annual revenue, according to his estimates.

SpaceX's plan to expand its artificial intelligence business

SpaceX's progress in artificial intelligence began with the acquisition of xAI, the company founded by Musk in 2023 and responsible for the Grok chatbot.

xAI also operates Colossus, a massive supercomputing cluster located in Tennessee. For Musk, that operation is just a part of a much broader strategy.

SpaceX also announced plans to build Terafab in Texas alongside Tesla. The complex will be dedicated to manufacturing advanced chips for various applications.

SpaceX also plans to launch a million AI satellites

Another of the company's projects is to launch up to one million artificial intelligence satellites called Starmind into low Earth orbit.

The deployment would use Starship, SpaceX's fully reusable mega rocket that is still in development.

In the longer term, the company plans to build factories on the Moon to produce data centers off Earth. The satellites could be launched from the lunar surface using electromagnetic systems.

The ambitious economic projection of SpaceX

In documentation presented before its IPO, SpaceX identified a total potential market of US$28.5 trillion.

Of that amount, about US$23 trillion would correspond to the artificial intelligence sector. To put that figure into perspective, the GDP of the United States last year was around US$30.8 trillion.
