Enzo Fernández's team in trouble: Chelsea received a hefty fine for financial irregularities

Chelsea was sanctioned by the English Football Association (FA) due to a series of financial irregularities recorded during the period when Roman Abramovich was the owner of the institution. The entity will face a fine of 10 million pounds, equivalent to about 11.5 million euros, while a sporting sanction that could prevent it from signing players during two transfer windows has been suspended.

The investigated infractions occurred between 2011 and 2018 and are related to payments that were not properly reported to the authorities. According to the resolution, the operations involved companies linked to the club's ownership and were aimed at agents, footballers, and other entities.

The FA reported that Chelsea acknowledged the 74 charges included in the investigation. The first independent commission that analyzed the case determined a financial sanction of 10 million pounds and a deduction of ten points in the competition.

Following the appeal filed by Chelsea against the sporting sanction, a second independent commission decided to modify the punishment. The points deduction was replaced by a ban on registering footballers during two transfer windows.

Like the original sanction, this measure will remain suspended until June 30, 2027. Therefore, the London club will be able to continue signing players as long as it meets the established conditions and does not reoffend with new infractions.

The investigated facts correspond to the period between 2011 and 2018, when Russian businessman Roman Abramovich was in charge of Chelsea.
