The Argentine driver will face a new date in Formula 1 at a circuit that holds a special memory: it is where he earned his first points in the category

Franco Colapinto arrives at the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix after completing one of his best weekends since joining the top category. The Argentine driver finished seventh in the Spanish GP, held at the Madring circuit, behind the wheel of his Alpine.

Now, Colapinto will face a special competition in Baku, the venue where he earned the first points of his career in Formula 1 while still competing for Williams.

The activity in Azerbaijan will have a particularity: the race will not take place on Sunday, but on Saturday, September 26. For this reason, the entire schedule will be moved up by one day compared to the usual format.

Formula 1: Schedule for the Azerbaijan GP

Thursday, September 24

5:30 to 6:30: Free Practice 1.

9:00 to 10:00: Free Practice 2.

Friday, September 25

5:30 to 6:30: Free Practice 3.

9:00 to 10:00: Qualifying.

Saturday, September 26

8:00: Race.

Thus, the decisive day of the weekend will be Saturday morning for Argentina, with Colapinto back on track in the Alpine.

Why is the Azerbaijan GP held on Saturday?

The modification of the calendar is due to a commemorative date of great importance for Azerbaijan. September 27, which falls on a Sunday this year, is observed as Remembrance Day, established in memory of the victims of the Nagorno-Karabakh war.

The choice of that day is related to the conflict that began on September 27, 2020, when new clashes occurred between Azerbaijan and the forces of the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh, backed by Armenia.
