As the elections for Independiente approach, names and movements are beginning to emerge in the club's political landscape. One of those who has once again become the center of speculation is Gastón Gaudio, who was present at the Libertadores de América to watch the match against Platense and left some hints about his possible participation in the elections.

The former tennis player and 2004 Roland Garros champion was asked before entering the stadium about the rumors linking him to a potential candidacy for president of the Rojo. Without confirming his intentions, he replied: "I have always wanted to help Independiente".

When asked how he envisions the future of the institution, Gaudio summarized his stance from his perspective as a fan: "We all have the desire to win". And when asked if he had held meetings with different groups, he acknowledged: "Yes, I talk to everyone. I have never done politics, so I talk to everyone".

His statements come amid the political movement that has already begun to gain momentum ahead of the upcoming elections. Although there is still no official confirmation regarding the date, everything points to the elections being held in December 2026, in a scenario marked by the search for a new leadership following the problems faced by the last administration, which ended with the resignations of Fabián Doman and Néstor Marconi.

In this way, Gaudio emerges as one of the names generating expectation within the electoral landscape of Independiente. His connection to the club is long-standing and he has never hidden his identification with the Rojo, even during his time as a professional tennis player.

Since retiring from sports, the "Gato" has maintained various activities related to the sports and business fields. He was the captain of the Argentine Davis Cup team (2018-2021) and also engaged in work related to international business, while his figure remained linked to the world of tennis and the media.

For now, Gaudio avoids defining himself politically. However, his presence in the stadium, his conversations with different groups, and, above all, his decision to not rule out a candidacy keep open the possibility that the Roland Garros champion makes the leap from sports to the politics of Independiente.
