On March 31, the national Government announced the declaration of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, in a decision made official in a statement issued by the Office of the President. The measure involves their incorporation into the Public Registry of Persons and Entities linked to Acts of Terrorism and their Financing (RePET)

.

The decision is framed in the historical background that links the Argentine Republic to two of the most serious attacks in its history: the attack on the Israeli Embassy in 1992, which left 29 dead, and the attack on AMIA in 1994, in which 85 people were killed. Both episodes, according to the statement, were carried out by Hezbollah, an organization that acts as the operational arm of the IRGC in the region

The official text maintains that judicial investigations and intelligence work determined that these attacks were planned, financed and executed with the direct participation of senior officials of the Iranian regime and members of the Revolutionary Guard. In this context, remember that the Argentine judiciary issued Interpol red alerts against Iranian citizens involved, including Ahmad Vahidi, current head

of the IRGC.

Based on this resolution, the inclusion of the CGRI in the RePET enables the application of economic sanctions, operational restrictions and measures aimed at preventing its actions within the country. According to the statement, the objective is to protect the Argentine financial system from possible links to illegal activities and to reinforce the prevention of terrorism

The measure was adopted in a coordinated manner between the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Security, the Ministry of Justice and the Secretariat of State Intelligence, based on official reports that accredit transnational

terrorist activities.

At the close of the statement, President Javier Milei stated that the decision seeks to settle a historic debt with the victims of the attacks and reaffirm the country's commitment to the fight against terrorism. Along these lines, the Government ratified its intention to align Argentina with international standards in terms of security and the fight against organized crime
