The Government of Javier Milei formalized Argentina's adherence to the Geneva Consensus Declaration, an international initiative that advocates for the protection of human life, the family, and the sovereignty of states to define their own policies regarding abortion.

The incorporation was confirmed this Thursday by Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, who highlighted that Argentina joins the coalition with the aim of providing political leadership, diplomatic capacity, and regional projection to an agenda based on human dignity.

“The Declaration reaffirms the protection of human life and the family as a natural and fundamental element of society,” Quirno explained while officially communicating the Government's decision through its social media.

The Geneva Consensus was originally launched in 2020 under the first administration of Donald Trump and establishes, among its central principles, that there is no international right to abortion nor an international obligation for states to fund or facilitate it. Furthermore, it asserts that each nation retains the sovereign right to implement its policies according to its internal legislation.

The United States rejoined the initiative following Trump's return to the White House and, since June 2026, also serves as the secretariat of the international mechanism. Argentina's adherence thus consolidates the shift in foreign policy driven by Milei, who since taking office has placed the defense of life, individual freedom, private property, and national sovereignty among the principles of his administration.

“This act confirms the course set by President Javier Milei: life, freedom, private property, and the rule of law guide the decisions of this Government,” Quirno declared.

The decision also places Argentina within a bloc of countries that seeks to prevent the international left from imposing the abortion agenda as a supposed “international right.” The document itself expressly states that such an international right does not exist, leaving decisions on the matter under the sovereignty of each state.

With the incorporation into the Geneva Consensus, the Government deepens a foreign policy that seeks to distance itself from the progressive agendas promoted during previous administrations and strengthen international alliances around principles that Milei has been defending since before assuming the Presidency: life, freedom, and the autonomy of nations.
