The Minister of Defense, Carlos Presti, held a meeting with the U.S. Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, during the closing of the PANAMAX 2026 exercise, in a new sign of the strengthening of the bilateral relationship between Argentina and Washington in terms of defense and regional security.
During the conversation, both officials emphasized the commonalities between the two countries and expressed their willingness to continue deepening military cooperation. The Ministry of Defense highlighted that the meeting reflected the level of closeness and trust achieved between both administrations.

Hegseth particularly valued Argentina's participation in the Hemispheric Security Forum of the Coalition Against the Cartels of the Americas (A3C), held in Panama with representatives from various countries in the region.
According to the Ministry of Defense, Argentina's incorporation into this framework allows for strengthening the country's strategic positioning in the South Atlantic and consolidating its participation within the hemispheric defense architecture.

The summit brought together political authorities, security officials, and high-ranking military leaders with the aim of coordinating actions against drug trafficking, organized crime, and other transnational threats. The coalition was promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump as a regional cooperation mechanism against criminal organizations.
The meeting took place alongside PANAMAX 2026, one of the main multinational military exercises in the region. The maneuvers began last week and gathered around 1,700 personnel from 19 countries, including Argentina, with training focused primarily on the defense of the Panama Canal.

Argentina's participation also occurs at a time when the United States seeks to advance towards regional structures with greater operational capacity. U.S. Southern Command recently presented the Western Hemisphere Joint Task Force, conceived as a tool aimed at coordinating concrete actions against the threats affecting the continent.
The presence of Presti alongside Hegseth thus consolidates the strategic rapprochement between Buenos Aires and Washington in terms of defense, while Argentina seeks to assume a more active role within hemispheric security frameworks without neglecting the protection of its sovereign interests.
