According to court documents obtained by People magazine, the 18-year-old filed a petition with the Superior Court of Los Angeles County to officially change her name. In the documentation, the reason for the change is simply described as a "personal" decision.
According to the file, the hearing to review the request is set for November 2. If the request receives the necessary approval, Vivienne will stop using the surname Pitt on all her legal documents.
Vivienne's decision did not surprise those who closely follow the family's story. In recent years, other children of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have also begun to stop publicly using the actor's surname or have initiated processes to officially change it.
One of the first signs occurred in May 2024, when Vivienne participated as a production assistant in the musical The Outsiders on Broadway. In the official program of the play, she was credited as "Vivienne Jolie," without including her father's surname.
These decisions have been interpreted by many as a new indication of the estrangement that exists between the actor and several of his children, a situation that has persisted for years amid the extensive legal conflict involving Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie following their separation.
