The family dispute between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie seems to be adding a new chapter. In recent hours, it was revealed that Vivienne, one of the daughters the former couple has in common, has begun the process to legally remove her father's surname and will be known solely as Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
According to court documents obtained by People magazine, the 18-year-old filed a petition with the Superior Court of Los Angeles County to officially change her name. In the documentation, the reason for the change is simply described as a "personal" decision.
According to the file, the hearing to review the request is set for November 2. If the request receives the necessary approval, Vivienne will stop using the surname Pitt on all her legal documents.
The young woman will stop using her father's name if her request is approved
Vivienne's decision did not surprise those who closely follow the family's story. In recent years, other children of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have also begun to stop publicly using the actor's surname or have initiated processes to officially change it.
One of the first signs occurred in May 2024, when Vivienne participated as a production assistant in the musical The Outsiders on Broadway. In the official program of the play, she was credited as "Vivienne Jolie," without including her father's surname.
Before her, Zahara also expressed her intention to identify solely as Zahara Marley Jolie, while Maddox began to present himself as Maddox Chivan Jolie. Meanwhile, Shiloh, who turned 18 in 2024, filed a court request to remove "Pitt" from her surname and adopt exclusively her mother's.
Brad Pitt may have lost all contact with his children
These decisions have been interpreted by many as a new indication of the estrangement that exists between the actor and several of his children, a situation that has persisted for years amid the extensive legal conflict involving Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie following their separation.
A relationship marked by years of conflict
Since Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, the relationship between the two actors has been marked by legal disputes related to the custody of their children and various shared assets, including the French vineyard Château Miraval.
Although none of the children have publicly explained the reasons behind the surname changes, the issue has once again brought attention to the complex family dynamic. In previous statements to People, a source close to Brad Pitt stated that the actor experiences these situations with sadness.
“It’s sad to see someone repeatedly publicizing their success in alienating their children from the other parent”, that source expressed when referring to the decisions made by several of the young people.
