The project to expand La Bombonera has once again taken center stage after an image was leaked showing what the stadium could look like once the renovations are completed. The photograph, which began circulating on social media, is said to have been taken during a presentation made by Boca to a group of members in one of the internal halls of the venue.
The image allows us to observe some of the main changes contemplated in the project. Among them, the roofing of the four stands and the return of the Tower of Tributes stands out, a structure that was part of the stadium from its inauguration until the remodeling of the boxes in 1995.

What the new Bombonera would look like
The reform designed by Boca includes, among its main modifications, the construction of a fourth tier above the three current ones. The new structure would be smaller and would add around 6,000 seats, all in the stands. For access, the project includes the installation of 18 elevators distributed across four exterior towers.
At the same time, some existing areas would be modified. The K sector and the Upper Standwould no longer have seats to become popular spaces, while the lower popular stands would change their current curved slope for a straight finish. Together, these reforms would significantly increase the number of spectators.
The possible new design of La Bombonera
The most significant change would be located on Dr. del Valle Iberlucea street. There, the demolition of the current boxes is proposed to build a new structure composed of preferred stands, an upper stand, and 216 boxes distributed across six levels. That sector would go from having about 3,000 seats to approximately 9,500.
To develop that part of the project, it would be necessary to move the playing field four meters towards the railway tracks. Additionally, the substitute benches would change location and would be next to the locker room tunnel, which would become single and without separation between the teams.
The plan also includes a roof to cover the stands area and a 360-degree LED screen. This is complemented by the construction of access towers to the new sectors and the recovery of the aforementioned Tower of Tributes.
The train would pass through part of the new structure
One of the difficulties of the project is related to the structure that will need to be built over the railway sector. For that point, Boca has already received approval from the National Transport Regulation Commission (CNRT) and endorsements from Ferrosur Roca, although it still needs to complete other urban authorizations.
Once the project is fully approved, the first part of the renovations includes the construction of four columns and the installation of the fourth tier, while the intervention on the boxes is projected for 2027. Once all stages are completed, it is expected that La Bombonera will go from approximately 57,000 current spectators to a figure exceeding 80,000.
