In the midst of a tumultuous climate after a season without conquests and several internal conflicts, the president of the Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, broke the silence. In a press conference, the executive addressed the rumors, dismissed his resignation, and announced elections in which he will seek re-election.

"I regret to tell you that I am not going to resign. I have requested that the electoral process for the board elections be initiated in which we will participate", he began. The leader explained that his decision responds to what he considers an offensive against him: "I do this because I have worked since 2000 to ensure that the owners of the club are the members. I made the decision because an absurd campaign has been created against the interests of Real Madrid and against me, taking advantage of the fact that we have had results that have not been the best, because you don’t always win".

Additionally, he strongly denied rumors about his health: "Some have told me that I have terminal cancer... I take this opportunity for those who have worried about me to know that I continue to preside over Real Madrid and my company, that my health is perfect, I couldn't be in both places if my health weren't perfect. If I had cancer as has been said, I would have to go to an oncology center, if I were, wouldn’t it have been reported everywhere in the world?".

The announcement comes after the defeat against Barcelona in LaLiga, which left the team without chances of adding a title this season. Nevertheless, Pérez defended his management with numbers: "I share the frustration, because this year we have not been able to win anything. But I have to tell you and show you that with me as president we have won 66 titles in football and basketball, including seven European Cups in football".

On the other hand, he also pointed out those who seek to challenge his power and challenged them: "They say there are people moving in the shadows to run. Well, let them run, this is the opportunity I give them. I am going to call for elections, this board of directors is going to present itself and I invite all those who want to run to take the opportunity to do so".

In another passage, Pérez directly targeted the media: "I have to come out to stop this. I cannot accept that there are people in the media who have taken over the situation. It has been less than two years since I won a League and a Champions, and now Madrid is in ruins and chaos. How can it be chaos?".

"There is a conspiracy. The journalists who insist on saying it is a ruin. There is systemic corruption. It is an orchestration of bad journalists against Real Madrid and I have to come out to defend it", he insisted.

His mention of the Negreira case

On the other hand, Florentino specifically referred to the so-called Negreira Case and described it as "the biggest scandal in the history" of Spanish football. It is an ongoing judicial investigation into payments made by Barcelona of more than 7.3 million euros to companies of José María Enríquez Negreira, vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees between 2001 and 2018.

"We have encountered this terrible fact along the way, a case of unprecedented corruption in world football. A case that has not been resolved and is still ongoing. It is incomprehensible that we are still seeing referees from that time in a competition with LaLiga", he stated. He also announced measures regarding the case: "We are going to present a dossier to UEFA to tackle it at its roots and resolve the case for the good of world football".

His opinion on the fight between Valverde and Tchouaméni

One of the focal points of tension at Real Madrid in recent days was the leak of an altercation involving Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni during a training session that ended with a 500,000 euro fine for each. Florentino referred to the issue and downplayed it: "There has not been a year in the 26 I have been at Real Madrid where two players have not fought. They have fought every year. You kick him, then he kicks you back and nothing, still friends".

"I think it is very bad and I think it is worse that it has been brought to light, because I have been at the club for 26 years and I can assure you that there has not been one where two players have not fought… Or four. But it stays within the house. Those who have leaked it, who surely were not happy because they think they will come out, tell it and you act as if it were a big deal", he commented.

"The chaos that some have tried to convey is horrible and I will not accept it. For me, the leak is worse, because it implies that there is something more than the fight. I believe that in my 26 years of history, it is the first time I see it and that also worries me", he concluded.
