Israel confirmed on Wednesday the death of Mohammed Odeh, recently appointed commander of the military wing of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, in a new precision operation carried out by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet.

The elimination of Odeh represents another strategic blow against Hamas's terrorist structure, following Israel's intensified pursuit of all those responsible for the massacre on October 7, 2023.

The Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, confirmed the operation through a statement posted on X and assured that Israel will continue until it completely destroys Hamas's military and political capabilities.

Israel targets all those responsible for October 7

Mohammed Odeh had just taken over as commander of the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, a week ago after the death of Ezzedine Al-Haddad in another Israeli attack.

According to the Israeli government, Odeh actively participated in the planning and execution of the terrorist attack on October 7, where more than 1,200 people were killed in Israeli territory.

“The fourth commander of the military wing of the terrorist organization Hamas in Gaza has been eliminated and sent to meet his partners in the depths of hell,” wrote Katz.

The minister also praised the military operation and stated that Israel will fulfill its promise to eliminate all those responsible for the attack.

“We are committed to eliminating all those who led the massacre of October 7, and that will be done,” he affirmed.

Netanyahu confirmed the offensive against Hamas

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also confirmed the attack and assured that Israel will continue to pursue terrorist leaders “anywhere.”

“We have carried out an attack against Mohammed Odeh, one of the architects of the massacre of October 7,” the Israeli government stated in an official announcement.

Netanyahu also reinforced the strategic objective of preventing Hamas from regaining control of Gaza, both militarily and politically.

Hamas continues to lose its top leaders

The death of Odeh adds to a long list of terrorist leaders eliminated by Israel since the beginning of the war.

Among them are:

  • Yahya Sinwar

  • Mohammed Deif

  • Ismail Haniyeh

  • Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Iran-backed Hezbollah

Israel believes that the systematic elimination of the terrorist leadership is key to preventing new attacks against Israeli civilians and weakening the operational network funded by Iran in the region.

Attacks in Gaza continue

Medical sources in Gaza reported that the Israeli attack hit a building in the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City.

The civil defense agency controlled by Hamas reported the death of a woman and several injuries, although Israel did not confirm additional operational details about the specific target of the bombing.

Meanwhile, Israeli helicopters and drones continued to operate over various sectors of Gaza amid the offensive against Hamas's terrorist infrastructure.

The Israeli military campaign continues in parallel with regional operations against Hezbollah and other armed groups backed by the Iranian regime, in a context where Netanyahu's government insists that there will be no truce until the terrorist threats against Israel are completely neutralized.
