The president Javier Milei analyzed various topics on the political and economic agenda during an interview with Mariana Brey on Telefe, where he defended the direction of his management and reaffirmed his intention to move forward with structural reforms, especially in the Central Bank.
Regarding exchange rate policy, the president denied that the United States played a decisive role in the stability of the economic program. He explained that assistance from that country represented a smaller proportion compared to the total resources mobilized to address tensions in the market.
“We cleaned the reserves, we raised the reserves, so the total size of the speculative attack was equivalent to seventy billion dollars,” he stated.

In that vein, he questioned interpretations that attribute the outcome to external factors: “That’s why it is very intellectually dishonest when they say: ‘You were saved by the United States.’ Of the seventy billion dollars, the United States contributed two thousand five hundred. We are talking about a number that is less than five percent.”
The President insisted that “it is very intellectually dishonest” to link economic performance exclusively with that support, and defended the decisions made by his team in monetary and financial matters.
The Falkland Islands
On the international front, Milei also referred to Argentina's claim for sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and highlighted progress in the diplomatic strategy. “We have achieved the greatest advances in history on the Falklands issue,” he affirmed.
Additionally, he stated: “We have managed to get the UN to force England to sit down with us to talk.” He indicated that the Argentine position has the backing of the United States, China, and sectors of British society.

The Central Bank Reform
On institutional matters, Milei defended the reform project of the Central Bank's Organic Charter, aiming to limit its financing capacity to the Treasury and reinforce its role in monetary stability. “The fundamental mission of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic is to preserve the value of the currency. Enough, it’s over,” he stated.
The president detailed that the initiative includes the prohibition of financing the fiscal deficit, the requirement of special majorities in Congress to remove the authorities of the agency, and restrictions on the distribution of “fictitious profits” derived from variations in the valuation of reserves. “The scam is over,” he expressed. He then added: “The political nonsense is over.”
Praise for Messi
Finally, Milei praised the performance of the Argentine national team in recent World Cups and highlighted their consistency in decisive instances. “Argentina, in the last four World Cups, reached three finals. There are 195 countries participating, two reach the final. It’s not for everyone,” he affirmed.
He also highlighted Lionel Messi, whom he defined as “the best player in the history of the game.” “It is impossible for there to be a football player like Messi. Well, there is, there is, and that is Messi,” he stated. He added: “All players, the elite superstars are two deviations above the average. He is six deviations. He is not human.”
