The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, had a phone conversation with the President of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, to congratulate her on the start of her term and reaffirm Washington's commitment to strengthening the strategic relationship between the two countries.

According to the diplomatic representation of the Trump administration, Rubio conveyed his congratulations to Fujimori for assuming the presidency and emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination between both governments in the face of common challenges facing the region.

During the conversation, both officials addressed issues related to security, institutional strengthening, bilateral trade, investment, and the fight against transnational criminal organizations.

The Peruvian president thanked the U.S. Secretary of State for his greetings and expressed her willingness to deepen cooperation with the Trump administration over the coming years. Fujimori stated that the United States is one of Peru's main strategic partners and expressed her interest in expanding economic collaboration, promoting new investments, and coordinating policies to tackle threats such as drug trafficking.

Foreign Minister Carlos Espá indicated that Keiko Fujimori's administration will seek to further strengthen ties with the United States and promote a cooperation agenda in trade, security, and regional politics. He also confirmed Peru's intention to join the U.S. program "Shield of the Americas," aimed at strengthening coordination against transnational organized crime.

From Washington, it was noted that the new political phase in Peru represents an opportunity to expand bilateral cooperation in various areas. The United States maintains a significant trade relationship with the Andean country and considers Lima a relevant ally in Latin America to promote democratic stability, economic growth, and regional security.

The phone exchange was also interpreted as a sign of mutual interest in consolidating a closer bilateral relationship during the new presidential term. With this first official contact, Keiko Fujimori's government and the U.S. administration demonstrated the political will to deepen an alliance that both parties consider strategic for the coming years.
