The data from the Central Debtors of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) reveals the falsehood of the Kirchnerism narrative that in recent days sought to present Mercado Libre as one of the main responsible parties for the increase in delinquency.

The analysis of the data corresponding to June 2026 shows a significant difference between the number of delinquent individuals and the amount of debts they hold.

The central data arises from comparing the median delinquency among different entities. While in Mercado Libre it is around $116,000, that is, approximately $0.1 million, in public banks it reaches around $1.4 million.

The difference allows us to observe that a larger number of people with unpaid debts does not imply a greater concentration of money in delinquency.

The survey, conducted by user @matifer on X based on the Central Debtors, demonstrates that less than 3% of the total delinquency in the system corresponds to Mercado Libre, while Banco Nación and Banco Provincia together concentrate approximately 15%.

Although the company founded by Marcos Galperin has the largest number of individuals with debt within the financial system, with over 6.5 million, the proportion it represents of the total money in irregular situations is significantly lower.

Thus, the entity that registers the most delinquent individuals is not, at the same time, the one that concentrates the largest amount of unpaid money.

The case is particularly relevant because fintechs have a high number of debtors, but generally with amounts considerably lower than those of other entities.

In the case of Mercado Libre, the median delinquent debt is around $116,000. In comparison, the median of Banco Provincia reaches $1.75 million, while that of Credicuotas is $840,000.

The report also highlights that Mercado Libre has a strategy aimed at expanding access to the financial system, as its expansion has allowed the incorporation of individuals into credit and the extension of tools such as accounts, QR payments, and financing for individuals and businesses.

Marcos Galperin echoed the analysis on his X account and questioned the criticisms directed at the company: "So, let's say, for the Peronists scandalized by the delinquency (who mention nothing about the increase in the number and amounts of credits that are indeed paid on time): the median delinquency of PUBLIC BANKS is $1.4 million while that of Mercado Libre is $0.1 million...".

And he concluded: "Of the total delinquency in the system, less than 3% is from Mercado Libre while Banco Nación and Provincia concentrate 15%".
