The president Javier Milei offered asylum at the Argentine embassy in Madrid to Vito Quiles, after the arrest warrant against the independent journalist in Spain became known.
The proposal was made public just a day after the reprehensible judicial decision was announced, in a context that the communicator himself describes as a “judicial hunt” driven by the Government of Pedro Sánchez.
Quiles confirmed that he will not present himself before the Justice for the moment and stated: “I am not going to surrender or expose myself to being arrested, as the Government wants, until further notice.”

In that same vein, he revealed the support of the Argentine president: “I have received the backing of Milei and his offer to take refuge in the Argentine embassy in Spain if I see that the situation worsens.”
The National Police showed up at the offices of Estado de Alarma (EDATV), where the journalist works, with the aim of executing the order issued by a Madrid investigating court.
The journalist himself questioned the lack of clarity in the process and claimed to be unaware of the specific reasons for his judicial situation. “I don’t know exactly why I am being sought, because I have not yet received any paperwork,” he stated.
Quiles denounces that this is an attempt to silence him due to his investigations and uncomfortable questions directed at the Spanish president's circle, which is linked to numerous corruption cases.
In particular, he connects the situation with his public interventions regarding Begoña Gómez, Sánchez's wife. In a video circulated on social media, he denounced a “judicial and media hunt” against him.

Additionally, he pointed out the actions of the security forces and hinted at hidden political motivations: “I hold some agents responsible who, according to what we have learned, are acting this way not by express orders from the court, but by suspicious directives from the Ministry of the Interior.”
Meanwhile, Quiles insists that he will not provide “the photo” of his arrest and questioned the operation deployed against him: “They have not communicated anything to either me or my lawyer. We are unaware of the reasons why they want to arrest me. The only thing I know is that they have already gone to my workplace, they have gone to my house, and they are trying to find me all over Madrid.”
In this context, Milei's offer of asylum introduces a new element amid the political persecution against Quiles in Spain.
