While the 2026 World Cup captures the attention of international football, Boca Juniors remains active in the transfer market and is one step away from adding a new signing. The club from La Ribera is close to securing the arrival of Colombian goalkeeper Álvaro Montero, who could become the second reinforcement of Rodolfo Arruabarrena's cycle.

The negotiations are progressing favorably and only administrative matters remain to finalize the operation. One of the pending issues is the contractual situation of the goalkeeper with Vélez, which has not yet executed the purchase option it holds on the player belonging to Millonarios from Colombia.

If no changes occur in the next few hours, Montero will be a Boca player and his official presentation will take place once the Colombian National Team's participation in the World Cup is over.

The search for a goalkeeper has become a priority for Boca following the serious injury suffered by Agustín Marchesín. In this context, the management has accelerated efforts to sign a player with international experience and competitive form.

Montero, 31 years old and with an impressive height of 2.01 meters, is experiencing one of the best moments of his career. His performances at Vélez have sparked the interest of the coaching staff, who believe he has the necessary qualities to compete for the position from his arrival.

The goalkeeper, born in El Molino, in the Colombian department of La Guajira, began his professional career before playing for clubs such as São Caetano in Brazil, Cúcuta Deportivo, Deportes Tolima, and Millonarios.

He also was part of the San Lorenzo squad, although he did not play any official matches with the blue-and-red team.
