After several months of conflict, Juan Sebastián Verón was once again authorized to serve as president of Estudiantes de La Plata. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) decided to lift the suspension that had been imposed on the official and annulled the financial sanction applied to the club for the incident of the "backward corridor" in front of Rosario Central.

The decision came after the appeal filed by Estudiantes before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), an organization they turned to after considering the sanctions imposed by the AFA's Disciplinary Tribunal to be excessive at the end of 2025.

Through an official statement, Estudiantes confirmed the resolution: "The Argentine Football Association has resolved to lift the suspension imposed on our president, Juan Sebastián Verón, and annul the financial sanction applied to the institution".

It added: "Thus, the disciplinary process is considered concluded. The club thanks its members, fans, and community for their sustained support throughout this process".

The conflict originated after the AFA awarded the Canalla the title of "League Champion", for being the team that earned the most points throughout the year. Estudiantes had questioned a supposed internal vote within the AFA related to the creation of this recognition and, amid that tense atmosphere and as a sign of protest, the team performed a backward honor corridor for the champion during their round of 16 match in the 2025 Clausura Tournament.

As a result of that incident, Verón received a six-month suspension from engaging in football-related activities for "offensive conduct and violation of the principles of fair play", according to Article 12 of the Disciplinary Code. Additionally, the club was fined and the 11 starting players involved also received sanctions, although they were later pardoned.

The penalty against the president of Estudiantes was nearing its end, but the resolution made after the appeal allowed for the definitive closure of the case and annulled the financial punishment against the La Plata institution. With this decision, the former footballer fully regained his functions at the helm of the club and one of the most tense episodes between Estudiantes and the AFA leadership in recent years was officially concluded.
