Raúl Asencio was arrested in Gran Canaria with more than three times the legal limit of alcohol. The Justice system imposed a monetary fine and a driving restriction
The current situation of Raúl Asencio is once again far from the playing fields. The defender ofReal Madridreceived a sentence from the Spanish Justice after being arrested while driving under the influence of alcohol in Gran Canaria, his hometown.
The incident occurred on August 16, when the Traffic Civil Guard intercepted the 23-year-old footballer in the south of the island while driving a Porsche Macan GTS. During the check, Asencio was subjected to two breathalyzer tests, both of which returned positive results: he registered 0.90 and 0.88 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air.
The values greatly exceeded the maximum allowed in Spain, set at 0.25 mg/l. Furthermore, when the level exceeds 0.60 mg/l, the behavior is considered a crime against road safety. In this case, there was no accident, and the intervention occurred during a routine vehicle check.
Asencio was convicted for driving under the influence
Following this incident, Asencio faced a quick trial in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. According to the EFE agency, the hearing took place on August 19, and the defender acknowledged the facts, accepted the sentence requested by the Prosecutor's Office, and expressed his remorse.
The Justice of Gran Canaria decided to impose a fine of 14,400 euros and a driving ban for eight months. Thus, the footballer will have to face the consequences of a behavior that, due to the amount of alcohol detected, was classified as a crime against road safety.
The other legal case he faces
Just a day before the sentence for drunk driving was revealed, Asencio had testified before the judge of Criminal Court number 5 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria regarding a case related to a sexually explicit video recorded of two women, one adult and one minor.
The case dates back to September 2023 and also involves three former teammates from Real Madrid's youth team: Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez, and Andrés García. The investigation determined that Asencio did not participate in the recording, although he did receive and subsequently disseminate the images.
Asencio faces another legal case
In May 2025, the Investigating Court number 3 of San Bartolomé de Tirajana had closed the investigation and opened a criminal process against the defender for an alleged crime against privacy. To seek to be exempt from responsibility in that case, Asencio needs the two complainants, who have already been compensated, to confirm that they forgive him for having shown the images to third parties.
