The new Resident Evil movie revealed new posters and promises to reinvent the saga.
As the director explained in various interviews, the idea is to build a film focused on pure terror, tension, and survival, without relying on constant fan service or an excessively complex narrative.
Zach Cregger's proposal aims to recover the original spirit of the classic Capcom video games.
Resident Evil is preparing its return to the big screen with a proposal completely different from previous adaptations. The new movie directed by Zach Cregger has already shown new official posters and is starting to generate expectations among survival horror fans.
The production maintains its scheduled release for September 18 and promises to become a true reboot for the film franchise based on Capcom games.
After several movies that failed to convince either critics or a large part of the players, Sony decided to bet big on Zach Cregger, one of the most respected names in current horror.
The director has made a name for himself with productions like Barbarian and Weapons, two works that quickly became cult titles within the genre.
Now, the filmmaker will have the mission of giving a new identity to Resident Evil, moving away from the formulas used in previous adaptations.
One of the most important changes in the project is that historical protagonists of the saga like Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, or Jill Valentine will not appear.
Instead of directly adapting any of the video games, Cregger chose to tell a completely new story set within the Resident Evil universe.
However, one of the most iconic settings of the franchise will return: Raccoon City.
The director assured that the film will follow a much simpler and more direct structure, centered on a protagonist trying to survive while going through extreme situations.
“Going from point A to point B,” the filmmaker summarized about the narrative approach of the project.
The intention would be to leave behind the more explosive and Hollywood-style of previous installments to return to an experience closer to traditional survival horror.
According to reports, the first test screenings of the film have received very positive feedback.
Some people who have already seen it even claim that it could be the best live-action Resident Evil to date.
For this reason, Sony has high expectations for this reboot, which could serve as a new starting point for future films based on the franchise. If there are no last-minute changes, the new Resident Evil movie will hit theaters on September 18.
