A fatal accident shook a family in the western Chaco region on Tuesday afternoon An 18-year-old reversed a truck and ran over his father, who died instantly due to severe injuries.
The incident occurred in the Alta Gracia area, about 140 kilometers from Taco Pozo, in the Almirante Brown department. There, father and son were performing routine cattle loading tasks in a corral when tragedy struck.
The victim was identified as Ramón Astorga, 47 years old. According to police sources, both were working together on an old Mercedes Benz 1518 when one of the animals jumped out of the vehicle and escaped.
In that situation, the young man attempted a reverse maneuver to prevent the bull from getting away. However, he did not notice that his father was right behind the truck and struck him directly.
The man was crushed under the vehicle
The impact was severe. Ramón Astorga was trapped under the truck and died as a result of the injuries caused by the crushing. The episode occurred in seconds and left no room for any reaction.
The case has been handed over to the Justice system and has been classified as negligent homicide in a traffic accident. The investigation is being conducted by prosecutor Gustavo Rafael Valero from the Criminal Prosecutor's Office 4, who is seeking to establish the precise circumstances in which the incident occurred.
So far, no details have been reported regarding the emotional state of the young man or possible precautionary measures. The procedure is following its usual course in this type of rural workplace accident.
The tragedy adds to a context of frequent risks in fieldwork, where handling animals and heavy machinery requires constant attention. In this case, the combination of a loose animal and a quick maneuver ended in the worst possible way.
An episode that repeats in rural areas
A few days earlier, another similar death had been reported in a Buenos Aires establishment. A 75-year-old farmer died after being struck by a bull while working in a cattle corral in Pedro Luro, in the Villarino district.
Although the circumstances are different, both incidents highlight the dangers faced daily by those engaged in livestock activities. In the Chaco case, the presence of a moving truck inside the corral further aggravated the situation.
Local authorities continue to gather testimonies and technical data to determine whether there was any failure in communication between father and son or if it was simply a perception error in a moment of tension.
For now, Ramón Astorga's family is facing the pain of an unexpected and absurd loss, occurring in the same place where both shared their daily work. The young man, who was only trying to retrieve an animal, inadvertently became the cause of his father's death.
The Justice system will have to clarify the responsibilities, but the human cost has already been paid. In the Chaco countryside, a routine maneuver turned into an irreversible family tragedy.
