President Donald Trump revealed that a cargo ship from South Korea, the HMM Namu, was attacked by Iran this morning and invited South Koreans to join his international coalition to secure the Strait of Hormuz against Iranian terrorism.

An explosion and fire were reported in the Namu, which has the Panamanian flag and is owned by the South Korean company HMM. The vessel, which has a crew of 24 people, was anchored near the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and was inside the Strait of Hormuz at the time of the incident.

No casualties have been reported so far.

“The government will continue to communicate closely with the relevant countries in connection with the incident and will take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of South Korean ships and crew members in the Strait of Hormuz,” the South Korean Foreign Ministry said of the fact.

"Iran has launched some attacks against nations outside the conflict regarding the movement of ships, PROJECT FREEDOM, including a South Korean cargo ship. Maybe it's time for South Korea to join the mission! “, Trump wrote in reaction to the event.

Project Freedom is President Trump's initiative in which the US Navy guides ships that attempt to transit through the Strait of Hormuz. The project officially began this Monday and aims to ensure international navigation through this key maritime passage currently blocked by the Iranian regime

.

“We have sunk seven small boats or, as they like to call them, 'fast' boats. That's all they have left. With the exception of the South Korean ship, at this time there has been no damage while transiting the Strait,” Trump said of the Freedom Project's progress

.

After Trump's statements, it was reported that the Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, and the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, will give more details about the Operation and the war in Iran at a press conference at the Pentagon tomorrow morning.

The attack on Namu marks the first attack against a South Korean vessel since the start of the war and the third attack on a commercial vessel in recent hours. An oil tanker was reportedly hit by drones on Sunday and another ship was attacked by “fast boats”
