In the midst of a football crisis that seems never-ending, Patronato experienced an episode of extreme tension. After the 3-0 defeat against Colón in Santa Fé on matchday 25 of the Primera Nacional, a group of fans attacked the team when they returned to the Presbítero Bartolomé Grella stadium in Paraná to retrieve their belongings.
This violent episode left the main victims as goalkeeper Alan Sosa and defender Facundo Díaz. According to initial reports, Sosa was punched, while Díaz ended up with cuts on his face and head. Images released after the incident showed the players with blood on their uniforms. According to early versions, at that moment there were no club officials with the team.
Patronato players were attacked after the away defeat against Colón
Shortly after the incident, personnel from the Investigations Department of the Entre Ríos Police intervened at the facilities to try to determine how the events unfolded and identify those responsible. For its part, the club has not yet issued an official statement regarding what happened.
The complicated sporting present of Patronato
The events occurred at a particularly delicate moment for the team led by Marcelo Candia. With only 24 points in the same number of matches played, Patronato occupies the 17th position out of 18 in Zone B, in relegation zone along with Güemes from Santiago del Estero, which is currently last with four fewer points.
The loss to Colón also extended the number of consecutive matches without a win to eleven. The last victory for Patronato was on May 17, when they defeated 2-0 against Chacarita at home. Since then, they have accumulated 7 draws (Tristán Suárez, Agropecuario, Atlético de Rafaela, Midland, Gimnasia y Tiro de Salta, Quilmes, and Colegiales) and 4 losses (Güemes, San Martín de Tucumán, Midland, and Colón).
The outlook is also concerning when playing away from Paraná: their last win as a visitor was on April 11, by 1-0 against Almagro. With the fight for survival becoming increasingly tight, Patronato will need to try to react on the field while the club is also going through a moment of intense tension off it.
