The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued a yellow alert for extreme cold for the AMBA and other areas of the country.

This Monday, August 10, Buenos Aires will experience a weather with partly cloudy skies, a minimum of 4 °C and a maximum of 12 °C. No rain is expected and the wind will blow from the west.

How the weather will continue in the AMBA during the week

On Tuesday the 11th, stable weather will continue, with temperatures between 6 °C and 12 °C. The sky will be partly cloudy and no precipitation is forecasted.

Wednesday the 12th will be the only day with instability in the forecast. The SMN anticipates isolated rain during the afternoon and night, with a probability between 10% and 40%.

For that Wednesday, the minimum temperature will be 8 °C and the maximum will reach 12 °C. The wind will continue from the west for a good part of the day.

On Thursday the 13th, stable weather will return, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 9 °C and 13 °C. No rain is expected in the AMBA.

On Friday the 14th, the cold environment will persist, although with a maximum of 14 °C. The forecasted minimum is 10 °C and the sky will be mostly cloudy.

On Saturday the 15th, similar conditions will be maintained, with a minimum of 10 °C and a maximum of 15 °C. The sky will remain mostly cloudy and no precipitation is expected.

Yellow alert for extreme cold: which areas are affected

The SMN reported a yellow alert for extreme cold for Santa Cruz, Río Negro, Neuquén, La Pampa, Mendoza, San Luis, Córdoba, San Juan, La Rioja, Catamarca, Tucumán, Corrientes, Buenos Aires, and the City of Buenos Aires.

The alert level implies a mild to moderate effect on health. The risk is greater for children, people over 65 years old, and those with chronic illnesses.

What the SMN recommends in response to low temperatures

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to the cold.

  • Dress warmly in several layers of lightweight clothing.

  • Keep the home heated safely.

  • Avoid sudden temperature changes.

  • Maintain good hydration.

  • Do not consume alcohol and avoid self-medication.

  • Consult a doctor if symptoms appear.

  • Pay special attention to children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
