The socialist dictator of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, stated this Thursday that President Donald Trump promised him that he will not invade Cuba.
The comment arises from the private meeting that Lula and Trump had in Washington last Thursday, which lasted three hours and was expected to have an initial press conference at the White House between both heads of state, but at the request of the Brazilian dictator, that conference did not take place.
Instead, Lula held a press conference at the Brazilian embassy, during which he stated that Cuba was one of the topics he discussed with Trump. "I heard - although I'm not sure if the translation was accurate - that he said he has no intention of invading Cuba. That’s what the interpreter said, and I think it’s a very positive sign," said Lula, who has a long-standing friendship with the Castro communist regime.
The Brazilian dictator has also been a fierce critic of Trump's pressure campaign against the communist regime and the U.S. "embargo" on the island, claiming that it is the cause of the extreme poverty and misery in which Cubans live, not the 67 uninterrupted years of socialism executed by the Castros.

Lula offers his mediation to save the Cuban dictatorship
In April, during a visit to Germany, Lula called for the U.S. not to take military action against Cuba and invoked the "self-determination of peoples" to defend the Castro regime. He also stated that Cuba is the "victim" of an "ideological blockade" against the communists in power and offered to mediate in talks to lift the embargo on the island.
"If you need help discussing the situation in Cuba, I am entirely at your disposal. If the translation was accurate, he said he has no intention of invading Cuba, and I think it’s a very positive sign, especially because Cuba wants to engage in dialogue and find a solution to end a blockade that has never allowed the country to be completely free," Lula said at his press conference.
In the same meeting, Lula and Trump agreed that teams from their respective governments would draft proposals to resolve the diplomatic crisis between the two nations regarding tariffs and trade, as there is an ongoing U.S. investigation, initiated in 2025, into alleged unfair trade practices committed by the Brazilian payment processing platform Pix to the detriment of U.S. trade.
