The FBI director of the government of Donald Trump, Kash Patel, announced this Monday the capture in Turkey and the subsequent extradition to the United States of the alleged mastermind behind one of the largest Medicare frauds in the history of the country, with a diversion of funds amounting to $3.7 billion.

The accused, identified as Ibrahim Khaldoon Hilmi, had been on the run since May 2025. After being apprehended by Turkish authorities, FBI agents flew last week to transfer him to U.S. territory through an international custody transfer operation, according to Fox News.

"Ibrahim Khaldoon Hilmi is accused of one of the largest Medicare frauds in history, having allegedly orchestrated a massive $3.7 billion scheme to defraud the system," Patel posted on his social media. "He had been on the run since May 2025, but we caught him."

"This is another great victory in this FBI's war against scammers, along with the White House Task Force led by Vice President JD Vance. It is a monumental triumph for the Trump administration that demonstrates that any criminal who steals from American taxpayers will be captured, no matter where they try to hide," added the Trump official.

The Medicare is the public health system of the U.S. federal government aimed at retirees over 65 years old and people with disabilities. Since this program manages a monumental volume of public resources contributed by taxpayers, such multimillion-dollar diversions represent catastrophic losses for the State.

The group dismantling these scam networks across the country is the task force led by Vice President JD Vance, an initiative driven by the President Trump aimed at pursuing tax fraud and recovering funds stolen from U.S. coffers.
