Zohran Mamdani was sidelined at the funeral of Army Sergeant Angel Sarah Rampersad held on Friday in Queens. The family of the soldier who fell in Jordan during the war against Iran did not allow the communist mayor to give a speech due to his connections with Islamic terrorism.

According to the New York Post, Mamdani appeared visibly upset because he had prepared a speech for the soldier's final farewell. Governor Kathy Hochul, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, State Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr., and other municipal leaders took the stage to say a few words, but not the mayor.

"They kept calling names and he was never mentioned," a source told the Post. "He then looked at his staff, frustrated and apparently angry for not speaking. When he realized they weren't going to call him, he looked angrily at his team and finally put away the tablet," they added.

A prepared speech that ultimately was not read

Another source involved in organizing the funeral stated that Rampersad's family supports President Trump and did not want Mamdani to speak. A third source confirmed that the mayor's far-left positions led to this decision. "The family is more conservative and wanted to avoid political distractions," this person noted.

Rampersad, 28, died along with three of her comrades defending a military base in Jordan that was attacked by Iranian drones and missiles on July 17. Hundreds of family members, neighbors, military personnel, and people who took the time to pay their respects attended her funeral.

Furious about the snub, Mamdani's press team released the speech that the Ugandan politician had prepared for the event. "It is often said that our fallen 'gave their mornings for our today,'" part of the text that was not read stated.
