As part of a new verification and fraud prevention process, the government of President Donald Trump temporarily suspended and rescheduled immigrant visa interviews at U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide.

The information was confirmed to Reuters by a spokesperson for the State Department, who detailed that diplomatic staff will receive global training to more accurately identify foreign citizens who may become dependent on public benefits funded by U.S. taxpayers after entering the country.

The training aims to ensure that officials evaluate applicants "comprehensively and consistently" once interviews resume, although no estimated date for the resumption of consular appointments has been announced.

For its part, the Financial Times reported that applicants who already had their interviews scheduled began receiving emails notifying them of the postponement and the promise of being contacted later to assign them a new appointment. It is worth noting that the measure does not apply to tourist, study, or other non-immigrant visa categories, which remain valid and whose process is not suspended.

With this decision, Trump and the Secretary of State of his administration, Marco Rubio, choose to temporarily halt the flow of migration with the aim of

The measure also has a strong political and judicial component, as last week a federal judge appointed during the tenure of senile Democrat Joe Biden, Jeannette Vargas, overturned a previous visa freeze initiated by the Trump administration that affected citizens from 75 countries considered high risk in terms of dependence on social assistance.
