The Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, announced on Monday a monumental campaign to economically isolate Iran and collapse its regime, targeting foreign governments and companies that help Tehran circumvent Washington's sanctions.
Bessent named the campaign "Operation Economic Outcast", stating that the Trump administration will practically suffocate all available sources of income for Iran. "Our goal is to cut off every economic avenue that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran is completely alone," the senior official stated at a conference.
The campaign will target the five critical lifelines for Iran: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and maritime transport. It will also focus on 60 individuals, entities, and vessels accused of helping Tehran generate income through oil and arms smuggling.
"Starting today, the actions of the Treasury and other agencies will tighten the noose and block every potential source of income that finances the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian regime", Bessent asserted. "There will be no room for the regime to rebuild its capacity to inflict terror against the United States and the world."
The operation is labeled by Trump as the "economic D-Day for Iran" or "the largest financial offensive ever launched against an adversary," as it carries consequences not only for the Islamic dictatorship but also for countries that provide "any type of vital support" to Tehran.
