In an event attended by his Secretaries of Transportation and Labor, President Donald Trump announced this Thursday a initiative to reward veterans with jobs and clear the roads of trucks driven by illegal foreigners.
This reform will allow veterans with vehicle driving experience to skip what Trump called "redundant road tests" and will offer training to those veterans who lack such experience. It also accelerates the processing of transportation licenses for this group and tightens English proficiency checks for foreigners.
Werner Enterprises, a Nebraska-based company that attended the event where Trump made the announcement, announced that it will hire 1,400 military veterans to work as freight carriers.

In recent years, states governed by politicians from the Democratic Party have granted carrier licenses to thousands of illegal immigrants who could not even speak English, leading to a series of fatal accidents on U.S. roads. Now with Trump, any driver who does not meet the English language proficiency requirements or does not have the proper license will be arrested.
"The Trump administration has made our roads safer by removing illegal foreign truck drivers who do not speak English from U.S. highways. Now, through the Freedom Haulers initiative, the president is expanding opportunities for our veterans by making it easier for them to obtain commercial driver's licenses once they complete their service," said Anna Kelly, White House spokesperson.
"By leading an interagency process that encompasses the Departments of Transportation, Labor, Veterans Affairs, and Defense, President Trump is strengthening the U.S. trucking industry, which is crucial for strong supply chains, while helping the heroes of our nation transition to civilian life with quality, well-paying jobs," the official added.
