The government of President Donald Trump announced this Tuesday that it will end the use of federal Medicaid funds and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that are allocated to finance gender transition treatments for minors and adolescents.
"Today, under my direction, Dr. Mehmet Oz announced that Medicaid will NO LONGER fund gender transition surgeries or hormones for minors", Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social. "We are not going to pay for our innocent children to undergo these surgeries and barbaric practices, which cause unimaginable and irreversible harm to their young bodies", he added.
Since Trump returned to the White House, in the last year and a half dozens of hospitals have suspended this type of procedure and the president hopes that more health centers will join the list. "Just think of all the young, innocent, and perhaps confused children who will be saved!", the president emphasized.
Trump banned by decree the federal government from funding gender transition treatments for children and adolescents
The new rule will take effect on October 13 and will strictly prohibit the federal government from funding treatments that include puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and gender transition surgeries. If states want to continue covering such treatments, they will have to use their own funds.
In this regard, there are already twenty-seven states governed by the Republican Party that have enacted restrictions on this type of transition treatment for children, according to KFF, a health policy research organization.
"While the 'Dumocrat' Party wants their children to be able to cut off their reproductive organs before they are old enough to vote, President Donald J. Trump (ME!) and the Republican Party say that is ABSURD, and we will protect the children of America", Trump wrote, contrasting the Republican stance with that of the Democrats. "Please remember this when you cast your vote in the midterm elections in November."
