A Muslim judge linked to the Democratic Party and with a history of freeing criminals apologized to the gunman who tried to assassinate President Donald Trump during the White House correspondents' dinner last week.
Judge Zia Faruqui harshly questioned Prison Service officials on Monday about the conditions under which Cole Allen, the left-wing militant accused of wanting to assassinate Trump, has been detained. “Whatever you've been through, I apologize for the previous week,” Faruqui told Allen, who allegedly remained in
solitary confinement.
Authorities had placed Allen under temporary suicide watch, a protocol that requires the suspect to be held 24 hours a day in a cell under observation. The judge complained that these measures were punitive and were not based on a medical

's conduct sparked outrage on the U.S. political scene, leading Washington to begin reviewing its judicial record. “This is the same judge who tried to release the man who beat Congresswoman Angie Craig despite having 25 arrest warrants,” said Senator

In 2023, Faruqui released a man accused of assaulting Congresswoman Angie Craig in the elevator of her apartment in Washington despite the prosecution's opposition to such a measure. He has also presided over cases related to the January 6 assault on Capitol Hill, regretting that Allen was under harsher conditions than those Trump militants who were arrested in 2021.
Couy Griffin, former New Mexico commissioner and founder of the group “Cowboys for Trump”, who spent three weeks in isolation on a minor charge of intrusion under the supervision of Faruqui, called the judge “evil” after learning that this judge was seeking to give Allen preferential treatment because he was a Democratic militant.
Before being appointed as a judge, Faruqui served as an assistant federal prosecutor and is the first Muslim judge appointed to federal courts in Washington DC.
