The tension between the United States and Iran has escalated again after President Donald Trump warned that he might expand U.S. military operations against Iranian strategic targets, including power plants and bridges, in response to what he described as a delaying attitude from Tehran in the negotiations.

“I may go ahead,” Trump stated in an interview with Fox News. “They had the chance to sign a deal and survive”. The president also claimed that diplomatic progress between both parties has been minimal and expressed frustration over the lack of results after weeks of talks.

Hours earlier, Trump had posted a message on Truth Social in which he further hardened his tone. “The bully of the Middle East is dead!”, he wrote in reference to the Iranian regime. “They took too long to negotiate a deal that would have been excellent for them. Now they will have to pay the price!”.

The statements come amid a rapidly deteriorating military situation in the region. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Tuesday that U.S. forces carried out strikes against Iranian facilities following the downing of an American Army Apache helicopter.

According to the official statement, the bombings targeted air defense systems, ground control centers, and surveillance radars located near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important maritime routes for global oil trade. CENTCOM described the operation as a “self-defense” action and a “proportional response to an unjustified Iranian aggression.”

Trump also revealed details about the incident involving the Apache helicopter. He explained that an Iranian unmanned aerial vehicle struck the U.S. aircraft while it was flying at low altitude. Although the drone did not explode, it became lodged in the fuselage, causing a fire on board.

“The helicopter was on fire, the situation was extremely dangerous,” the president recounted. Despite this, the pilots managed to make an emergency landing and were later rescued by an unmanned U.S. military vehicle, an operation that Trump described as “a miracle”.

The president also asserted that U.S. forces have destroyed more than half of the capabilities that Iran attempted to rebuild during the ceasefire period.

The new threats from Washington suggest that the White House may be preparing to significantly expand the military campaign against critical Iranian infrastructure, raising the risk of a broader regional confrontation in the coming weeks.
