Since the assumption of the Government of Javier Milei at the end of 2023, Argentina has recorded a historic improvement in child poverty levels, with a reduction exceeding three million children and adolescents.
According to a recent UNICEF report, the decline occurred between the first half of 2024, when the situation reached its most critical point, and the second half of 2025, demonstrating a significant recovery.
At the most complex moment, during the first half of 2024 and amid the severe economic crisis inherited from Kirchnerism, child poverty had escalated to 67.1%, representing 9,098,518 minors living in households whose income was insufficient to cover the total basic basket.

However, by the second half of 2025, the indicator showed a significant drop to 42.3%, with a total of 5,054,526 children and adolescents in poverty.
The difference between both periods reflects that 3,043,992 minors managed to escape that condition, consolidating one of the largest improvements in recent decades, within the framework of the successful economic program of Milei's Government.
Extreme Poverty
The same phenomenon was observed in the levels of extreme poverty. In the first half of 2024, child indigence reached 27.3%, with 3,294,926 children living in households that could not even cover the basic food basket.
By the second half of 2025, that figure had dropped significantly to 1,123,228, which implies that 2,171,698 children and adolescents ceased to be in a state of indigence.

This improvement process occurs within the framework of a broader recovery of social indicators, following the deterioration recorded during Kirchnerism. The magnitude of the decline not only reflects a decrease in percentages but also a concrete impact on millions of families that managed to improve their living conditions.
Although current levels are still high, the change in trend allowed for the reversal of a situation that had reached historic levels. The exit of more than three million children from poverty and more than two million from indigence constitutes a central fact within the social landscape.
The data reflects a significant recovery in a relatively short period thanks to the successful economic program of Milei's Government, with a direct impact on one of the most sensitive sectors of the population.
