The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, ignited a new regional controversy after denouncing an alleged incursion by Colombian guerrilla fighters on the northern border, which he directly linked to the government of Gustavo Petro.

Through a public message, the Ecuadorian president assured that several sources confirmed the entry of armed groups from Colombian territory, which generated an immediate reaction at the political level. Noboa said that his government will take measures to protect national sovereignty and ensure the safety of the population in border areas

.

“We will protect our border and our population,” said the president, in a context where Ecuador is facing a growing security crisis linked to drug trafficking and the actions of criminal organizations.

However, the strongest point of his statement was the direct message to his Colombian counterpart. “President Petro, dedicate yourself to improving the lives of your people instead of wanting to export problems to neighboring countries,” said Noboa, raising

the tone of the diplomatic conflict.

The border between Ecuador and Colombia has historically been a sensitive area, with the presence of illegal armed groups, drug trafficking and illegal economies. In recent months, concern about the possible movement of these organizations to Ecuadorian territory has been increasing

.

The call to the Colombian government introduces a new element of tension in the bilateral relationship. Although no public evidence has been presented to confirm Bogotá's direct responsibility, Noboa's statements reflect a climate of growing mistrust

.

Analysts warn that such accusations can complicate regional security cooperation, a key aspect for confronting transnational threats such as organized crime.

At the same time, the Ecuadorian president's message is part of his “heavy-handed” strategy against insecurity, with which he seeks to show firmness in the face of a population that

is increasingly concerned about violence.

So far, the Colombian government has not issued an official response, although it is expected that the crossing of statements will have diplomatic repercussions.

In this scenario, the situation on the northern border is once again at the center of the regional agenda. Beyond declarations, the challenge will be to prevent political tension from translating into a deterioration of cooperation between the two countries, in a context where security depends, to a large extent, on coordinated actions
