The Government of Javier Milei announced the designation of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) as a terrorist organization, in a measure aimed at strengthening the fight against transnational organized crime.
The measure announced through the Office of the President is in line with the country's international commitments in the fight against terrorism and its financing.
The CJNG, which formally emerged in July 2010 after splitting from the Sinaloa Cartel, has established itself over the last decade as one of the most powerful drug trafficking organizations in the world. The group has a presence in Mexico, operations in the United States and expansion in at least 40 countries, including the Argentine Republic.
In this context, its top leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho”, was killed last February 22 in an operation in Mexico.

The decision of the Government of Milei is part of current regulations and provides for the incorporation of the group into the Public Registry of Persons and Entities Linked to Acts of Terrorism and their Financing (RePEt), which operates under the authority of the
Ministry of Justice.
According to the statement, the measure was adopted in coordination between the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of National Security, the Ministry of Justice and the Secretariat of State Intelligence.
The resolution is based on official reports that “prove illegal activities of a transnational nature, as well as links with other terrorist organizations”.
The inclusion of the CJNG in the RePET empowers the State to apply financial sanctions and operational restrictions aimed at combating the actions of the organization and its members. In addition, it seeks to protect the Argentine financial system against possible illegal maneuvers and to strengthen control mechanisms

The Government also stressed that this decision will deepen international cooperation in the field of security and justice, especially with countries that have already taken similar measures against
this criminal organization.
In this context, President Milei reaffirmed his position against terrorism and organized crime, stating that he maintains “the unwavering conviction to recognize terrorists for what they are”.
Along these lines, the president had already made similar decisions with respect to other groups, such as Hamas, the Cartel of the Suns, the Muslim Brotherhood and the Quds Force.
The measure represents a further step in the security policy of the Milei Government, which firmly confronts international criminal structures, in addition to reinforcing Argentina's position in the global fight against terrorism.
