Amid the standstill of Formula 1 due to the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen once again expressed his admiration for Lionel Messi and recalled one of his most emblematic plays at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Red Bull driver first highlighted one of Rosarino's main virtues: “He knows how to read the game.

You see a lot of players who need to run, who need to come in to score a goal. He can score from anywhere, anytime, and you think you can stop him, but you can't stop him, so he'll score when he sees the

opportunity.”

Then, he made specific reference to the cross between the Argentine National Team and the Netherlands in the quarterfinals, where the 10 assisted Nahuel Molina to open the score: “The ball that played against the Netherlands in the last World Cup, that can't be defended. You may believe that you can defend yourself, but you just

can't.”

That match ended 2-2 in the 90 minutes and was defined by penalties, with an Argentine victory 4-3, in a tense match that also left iconic moments, such as the crossing between Messi and Wout Weghorst and the phrase “Go there, fool”, which quickly went viral.

This is not the first time that Verstappen has surrendered to Argentinian talent. On other occasions, even when comparing him to Cristiano Ronaldo, the Dutchman had already marked his position by pointing out that Messi has a differential talent. “I think Messi is more talented but Cristiano has continued to work and stay incredibly fit,” he said

.

With his statements, the four-time F1 world champion once again highlighted the Argentine captain's unique ability to decide games with actions that, as he himself defined, are impossible to defend.
